2015 marks the year of Jubilee for Singapore. It is the 50th Celebrations nationwide are in order as we remember our journey and struggles as a small nation. We praise God for His hand of mercy and grace towards us and acknowledge that He reigns over nations. (Psalms 47: 8)
What does Jubilee mean for us in health care? The concept of Jubilee is rooted in the Old Testament.(Leviticus 25:8-55) It flowed from the heart of God, not from man. During the Jubilee Year, debts were cancelled, slaves were released.* There was a restoration of inheritance, family reunion, a year’s vacation, a year of justice for the oppressed and even the land rested. It was Jehovah God’s proclamation of freedom. What a God!
At Calvary, Jesus became our Jubilee. Through the Cross and His resurrection, He declared liberty to the whole world. There is freedom from the penalty and power of sin, from the giants of fear and Satanic bondages, and freedom to experience healing of relationships and joy to serve the poor and work for social justice.* The Jubilee is a year of release, restoration, rest and rejoicing. Yet how many of us experience the fullness of our Jubilee? May we not live in a manner less than what Jesus meant for us.
Let 2015 be a year where we continue to proclaim the Lord’s favour in healthcare. We proclaim that He is Lord of health care and healing. We declare the salvation of our patients, sanctification, holiness and freedom from self, healing of relationships, the defeat of Satan’s plans and purposes, and the reality of a ‘Sabbath rest’ for us all.* He has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. (2 Peter 1:3)
“SG50” is the 2015 banner over Singapore. We celebrate God’s deliverance of us as a nation. Let us in healthcare also arise with the message of God’s redemptive purpose for all. Troubles, wars, persecutions will still exist, but we won’t be discouraged. His Word gives us stability and provide sanity in a world broken by sin and evil. Let us serve Him wholeheartedly, knowing that He alone gives meaning and eternal significance to our mission on earth. Have a blessed New Year!
